SAN ANTONIO - A teenager accused of shooting his mother to death made his first court appearance on Thursday.

The 16-year-old, who is not being named due to his age, was in front of Judge William Shaw in the 436th Juvenile District Court along with his legal representatives. The deadly shooting happened around 2:30 p.m. on June 18 at a home near the corner of Delgado Street and North Hamilton Avenue.Officers found the victim, identified as Luz Aurora Gonzalez, 37, lying on the front yard with a gunshot wound to the back of her head. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said the 16-year-old suspect used a shotgun to execute his mother. He was taken into custody.During the course of Thursday's hearing, his attorneys said that he has a history of having hallucinations, but was last seen by a psychologist back in 2016 for an evaluation. They said that he has had no access to medication.

A recommendation was agreed upon that the teenager will have an uptick of supervision while in custody as they believe that he is a "danger to himself and others."
