A court heard that Tia Langdon fell to her death after Jaiden Hassan-Agard threatened her and her friend with a machete over stolen drugs. The prosecutor described how Langdon, in a hysterical state, saw jumping from a third-floor balcony as her only escape. Hassan-Agard denies all charges, and the trial is ongoing.
A tragic incident unfolded in Southampton when 25-year-old Tia Langdon fell to her death from a third-floor balcony after a teenager wielding a machete threatened her and her friend, a court has heard.
The events leading to her fatal fall began on August 28, 2025, when Langdon and her friend Shannon McNeil returned to McNeil's flat in the early hours. They were joined by Jaiden Hassan-Agard, 19, who was visiting someone else in the apartment block. Initially, the atmosphere was relaxed as they smoked marijuana and crack together.
However, the situation escalated dramatically when Hassan-Agard accused the women of stealing £250 worth of his drugs. Armed with two machetes, he became increasingly aggressive, taking his frustration out on a water bottle before turning his threats toward the women, specifically mentioning plans to torture them. The prosecutor, Sarah Jones KC, described how Hassan-Agard threatened to waterboard them and then punched Langdon in the face.
Langdon, who was described as cowering in a corner and so frightened that she wet herself, entered a hysterical state. She ran repeatedly to the balcony, believing that leaping 35 feet to the concrete below was her only means of escape. Despite her friend McNeil's attempts to calm her, Langdon jumped when Hassan-Agard's attention shifted to McNeil's dog. She fell and died the next day from her injuries.
After the fall, Hassan-Agard allegedly kidnapped McNeil, threatening her with the machete and forcing her to bring her dog as they fled. He was later heard by other residents walking past Langdon's body, urging another girl to come with him and ordering a taxi. When the taxi refused to take them because of the dog, he abandoned McNeil, telling her not to return. McNeil then returned and made herself known to police.
Hassan-Agard attempted to evade capture by swapping the SIM card in his phone but reportedly checked news sites reporting on Langdon's death and used a Telegram messenger app, writing 'I'm running from an M, a murder surely we say.
' He was arrested and on September 1, 2025, he answered no comment to all questions during his police interview. He now stands trial, pleading not guilty to manslaughter, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, making threats to kill, false imprisonment, and threatening with an offensive weapon in a private place with a machete in relation to Langdon. He also pleaded not guilty to kidnapping, threatening with an offensive weapon, threatening to kill, and false imprisonment of McNeil.
The prosecution argued that the altercation was so frightening and intense that Langdon must have felt utterly trapped, prompting her desperate leap. They posed the question: how frightened must one be to consider such a dangerous escape as the best option? The trial continues as the jury deliberates on the evidence presented
