A girl and a boy, both aged 16, who were hit by a truck near a school in Adelaide's east have been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after what police described as an 'extremely traumatic incident' that was widely witnessed by other students.

"It was a really busy time there, and it was witnessed by a lot of people including a lot of children from the nearby school, so an extremely traumatic incident.""Police have closed off Kensington Road to all traffic in both directions between Portrush Road and Hackett Avenue – so that section of road there just near the Marryatville High School," Senior Constable Stokes said.

"[That's] going to be closed for several hours. We've sent our Major Crash investigators to the scene to help with this investigation.The crash happened at a pedestrian crossing on Kensington Road.Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage that may assist investigators has been asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
