A teenage boy was seriously injured in a shooting in Minneapolis on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred outside the Minneapolis Police Department's Fourth Precinct building.
Minneapolis authorities are investigating a Sunday afternoon shooting which left a teenage boy seriously injured. Officers within the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) heard gunshots outside of the department's Fourth Precinct building shortly after 12:30 p.m., a spokesperson told The National News Desk (TNND). The spokesperson said there was also an activation of the department's ShotSpotter, a detection system which uses sensors to alert authorities to potential gunfire incidents.
Outside the Fourth Precinct building, MPD officers found a male teenager with apparent life-threatening injuries, according to the department. Officers believe the boy was walking on the 2000 block of Plymouth Avenue when a person in a vehicle driving by fired several shots, striking the teenager once. The vehicle immediately fled the scene and no arrests have been made as of Monday morning, the spokesperson said. The teenager was transported to Hennepin Healthcare Hospital in Minneapolis. MPD's Fourth Precinct building was also damaged by gunfire during the incident, according to the department. Minneapolis has received 6,038 shots fired calls since the beginning of this year, while a total of 6,428 were received last year, according to shared by the city. Shots fired calls include ShotSpotter activation, reports of shootings and sounds of shots being fired.
