An 18-year-old senior reported severe hunger among his siblings due to an absent mother to his school counselor. Despite multiple reports of neglect, the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services failed to open a case, resulting in the death of the youngest sibling, Thyri, from malnutrition and dehydration.
