A teen was hit and killed on Friday morning while riding a bike in Northeast Philadelphia.
The crash happened at about 4:35 a.m. on the 3300 block of Woodhaven Road near Byberry Road, police said.The victim, who was identified by police as 16-year-old as William "Billy" McWilliams, was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died."Always on a bike, playing video games and out with his friends," said his aunt, Denise McWilliams.
He was a student at Philadelphia Academy Charter High School. He was the middle son between two sisters.Police are now checking surveillance cameras in the area to get information about the vehicle involved. Based on the evidence collected at the scene, investigators say they may be looking for a Dodge with some front-end damage.
"We found a large plastic part from the striking vehicle, we believe that appears to be from a wheel well. We also found a fresh Dodge emblem," Chief Inspector Scott Small. "It's a life taken way too soon. This kid, he had hopes and dreams. He brought so much to a room when he was in it," said a friend, Liz Miller. "For that reason alone, you should have enough respect and dignity to own up to taking the life of that person."
