Teen pregnancy report distorted: DoE spokesperson eNCA
Education spokesperson Steve Mabona responded to a report stating over 3,000 Gauteng pupils between 10 and 15 years old were impregnated in 2019, in some cases by their educators.
Mabona said the numbers in the report were misleading, without numbers for all the provinces and there were no indicators of how many of the pregnancies involved educators.and would lead to the educator being disallowed to work with children if convicted.He asked that parents work with the department to make allowances for teenagers who have fallen pregnant and need support in order to complete their formal education.
