A witness identified the 18-year-old as the shooter, authorities said.
Millville police responded around 5 a.m. June 12 to Rieck Avenue Elementary School to a report of an unresponsive man in a parked car.
Officers found Mark Hoffman Jr., 20, of Millville, in the driver’s seat of the car, dead of a gunshot wound to the head. After reviewing surveillance footage and speaking with witnesses, authorities charged Emmanuel B. Doivilus, 18, of Vineland, in the killing, according to his criminal complaint.In addition, a vehicle allegedly driven by Doivilus was seen on surveillance cameras at the school, according to the affidavit. With the assistance of automated license plate reader technology, investigators said they were able to track that vehicle from the school to the defendant’s residence.
A Cumberland County grand jury recently indicted Doivilus on counts of first-degree murder, second-degree aggravated assault, second-degree possession of a weapon without a permit, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and third-degree unlawful possession of weapons.Doivilus remains in Cumberland County Jail and is scheduled to return to court Sept. 22 for a post-indictment arraignment.
