The arrested teen, whose name wasn’t released, surrendered to Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office homicide detectives and was charged as a juvenile Monday afternoon, officials said.The victim, Pedro Rodriguez, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and wasat about 11:50 a.m. Dec. 16 by police answering a call of shots fired at Communipaw Avenue near Martin Luther King Drive, officials have said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
In addition to murder, the 17-year-old is charged with possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, the HCPO said.Deputy Superintendent of Schools Norma Fernandez told The Jersey Journal earlier this month that the victim hadn’t currently been attending classes but that his family and the school had been looking for options for him so he could continue his education.
“Pedro was a quiet, respectful young man,” Fernandez said at the time. “Our deepest condolences and prayers go to the family and friends as they cope with this horrific tragedy.” The HCPO Homicide Unit is investigating the case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.
