DAVAO CITY – Tëduray leaders and survivors on Thursday welcomed Senator Robinhood Padilla’s resolution seeking an investigation into the alleged forced relocation of the Tëdurays in December 2020 to a relocation site in Kusiong, Datu Odin Sinsuat in Maguindanao del Norte which was buried by Typhoon Paeng-triggered landslide on October 28, killing at least 27 of them.

Mendoza added that the probe is important especially because 27 of their fellow Tëdurays died in that landslide. In his resolution, Padilla noted the area where the tribe was relocated at the foot of Mt. The NMIPs, however, faced a major problem: the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act , a national law passed in 1997, could not be applied in the then Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao because “ancestral domain and natural resources” had been devolved to the autonomous region when it was established in 1990.
