TedLasso has given every indication that it’s ending this year—but even ahead of the show’s maybe-final episode, it's fair to imagine what spin-offs might be in store.

You could say the same for Sam—one of the season two’s best breakout characters, played by the infinitely appealingwho was glaringly absent for much of this season—or Colin Even with each episode running incredibly long for what was once a taut half hour comedy, there’s seemingly been little room for the ensemble of football players who were once core to the show’s appeal.

As the season—series?—has moved toward its close, some skeptics have been persuaded. Jamie and Ted both had emotional confrontations with their parents in episode 11, “Mom City,” that brought back some of the show’s heartstring-tugging power. Nate’s inevitable return to Richmond haswith one of the show’s early themes of forgiveness in a way that seems to conjure that season one spark.

But even if that happens, will there be enough momentum for any of these potential spin-offs to successfully launch? Television production is in a particularly strange place right now—but even post–WGA strike, it’s likely that we will be fully out of the era of peak TV. Apple TV+ has deeper pockets than most, and aspin-off is unlikely to meet the immediate oblivion that can plague other shows on the streamer.
