Cruz joined Texas A&M Athletic Director Trev Alberts to talk about the state of NIL in college athletics ahead of the Aggies’ season opener.
“They were not willing to move this year,” he said. “I’m very hopeful next year with the gavel, that’ll change.” Cruz said he’s in favor of student athletes being compensated for the countless hours spent pursuing activities that ultimately make millions of dollars for universities, television and advertisers. But he’s concerned that smaller programs, including HBCUs, will be priced out of competition. He also voiced concern for women’s sports and other non-revenue producers.
