2023 has easily surpassed 2022 for tech layoffs
More than 240,000 global technology-sector employees have been laid off since the start of the year, according to data compiled by the website Layoffs.fyi.
This week Qualcomm Inc. QCOM, -2.18% joined the list of companies making layoffs when it announced that it will cut about 2.5% of its workforce in December. The cuts will be centered in California, the chip maker said in filings with the California Employment Development Department Thursday.Last month, Epic Games Inc., publisher of “Fortnite,” announced that it would be laying off 16% of its workforce, or 830 employees.
Software giant Microsoft Corp. MSFT, -0.89% announced job cuts in July, in addition to the 10,000 cuts the company announced earlier this year.In June, Niantic Inc., the company that created the popular “Pokemon Go” game, announced 230 layoffs.
