A teacher's aide at Belvidere Elementary School in Warren County is accused of kicking a 5-year-old boy with autism in the ribs after he refused to stop running in the hallway. The incident occurred Friday when the aide, Carlton, attempted to stop the child from running. The boy allegedly smacked Carlton's belly, leading Carlton to take the boy to the ground and kick him.
A teacher’s aide at a school in Warren County took a 5-year-old boy with autism to the floor and kicked the child in the ribs after he refused to stop running in the hall, officials allege.
The incident occurred Friday at Belvidere Elementary School in Belvidere after Carlton walked a different student back to class, authorities said. When Carlton stepped into the middle of the hallway to stop the 5-year-old from continuing to run, the boy smacked the belly of the aide, authorities said.
Carlton then grabbed the boy by his arms and placed him on the ground on his back, authorities said. The aide then kicked the child in the ribs on his right side, authorities said.The boy had a mark on his ribs and was later brought to an area hospital by his parents to be checked.Belvidere schools Superintendent Chris Carrubba declined to comment. Carlton’s name was removed from the school’s staff directory on Thursday morning.
