Countdown to 2020 starts now!
The singer sat down with journalist Robin Roberts and discussed re-recording her previous body of work from Taylor’s old label Big Machine Records. “One thing about this album that’s really special to me is that it’s the first one that I will own of my work,” Taylor said, garnering a thunderous applause from the audience. “Which is a concept that they’re very supportive of,” she playfully replied to the loud cheers.
Robin then asked if it was true that Taylor is re-recording her music and would thus own all of the new versions, after“Yeah, that’s true and it’s something that I’m very excited about doing because my contract says that starting November 2020, so next year I can record albums one through five all over again, so I’m very excited about it.
After it became public knowledge in June that Scooter had acquired Big Machine Records, Taylor responded through a“Thankfully, I am now signed to a label that believes I should own anything I create,” she said in her post. “Thankfully, I left my past in Scott’s hands and not my future. And hopefully, young artists or kids with musical dreams will read this and learn about how to better protect themselves in a negotiation. You deserve to own the art you make.
