Fans were still excited to hear songs from Lover on The Eras Tour since Swift had never toured with the album before . It wasn't until after the theatrical release of The Eras Tour movie that "Cruel Summer" finally hit No. 1 on the charts. A few weeks after the premiere of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour in theaters on October 13, 2023, "Cruel Summer" claimed the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 on October 28, 2023 . Now, more than a year after The Eras Tour began, "Cruel Summer" has the most streams of any Taylor Swift song on Spotify and is still charting high to this day.
Its boost in popularity meant the energy in the crowd during "Cruel Summer" at the filmed L.A. shows was on another level, which translated to the screen in The Eras Tour movie.
