Taylor Swift fans not so ‘delicate’: Swifties out shake the Beast Quake
Last weekend, Swifties from across the country came to Lumen Field for two nights of Taylor Swift, and they may have made more noise and shook the ground than the 12s during Marshawn Lynch’s legendary touchdown run against the New Orleans Saints in 2011.
In fact, the Taylor Swift shows registered some seismic activity, with Western Washington University geology professor and seismologist Jackie Caplan-Auerbach comparing it to the thunderous cheer that eventually became known as the Beastquake in 2011. According to Caplan-Auerbach, the ground shaking created by Swifties in Seattle was actually double what we saw from the 12s during the Beastquake.
She also points to a few caveats though. Taylor Swift fans had the advantage of being on the floor during the concert, compared to Seahawks fans that were in the stands in 2011.But the winner is clear: there’s a new Beast Mode in Seattle, and her name is Taylor Swift. In the days ahead, Caplan-Auerbach is hoping to gather more data from the concert from anyone who attended the concert. If you have video from either show in Seattle, go ahead and send it her way atShe also plans to monitor the seismic activity when Beyonce comes to town in September, meaning that soon we’ll be able to see which fanbase reigns supreme.
