San Antonio -raised actress Paulina Chávez reads a lot of scripts that don’t really resonate with her. “ Landman ” was different. Chávez was asked to audition for the part of Ariana , a young Latina mother, for the newest addition to Taylor Sheridan ’s TV empire. She loved the part but figured it would most likely go to someone a little older. “Being sent this audition, I was like, Oh my God what a dream. If only I was like 30 years old,” she said.

It is her first adult role, she said, and the first time she’s had a chance to explore motherhood a bit. “I’m the youngest in the family, so I didn’t grow up with any babies and I don’t have a maternal bone in my body,” she said. “But at the beginning of 2023, my sister had her first baby. So my mom and I were just there helping as much as we could.
