Legal arguments in the court application to reverse the May election of the new Santaco president Abner Tsebe continues. The association filed opposing papers pleading that the matter was not urgent

In an answering affidavit filed last Thursday, prepared by the newly elected Santaco secretary-general Willem Daki Qumbu, the taxi association argued that the applicants, who represent two regional structures of Santaco in Greater Johannesburg and Sedibeng, also had no standing to bring the matter to court. He added that all the association’s decisions and procedures were valid and complied with its constitution.

Tsebe’s newly elected team, which will be in charge for the next four years, included first deputy president Mazwe Mkonki from the Northern Cape and Fanyana Sibanyoni from Mpumalanga as the second deputy president. Boy Zondi, the former first deputy president from KwaZulu-Natal, was the new public relations officer.

“Should the applicants not succeed in convincing the court that they will not be afforded substantial redress at a hearing in due course, the matter must be struck from the roll with costs. In their case, the applicants challenged the “constitutionality and legality” of a decision by its national leaders to place the Gauteng provincial executive under administration, just five days before the national conference.
