Taxi driver and passengers feared for their lives as car smashed into them killing driver and passenger, inquest hears
The occupants of a taxi which was smashed into by a car involved in a high speed police chase thought they were going to die, an inquest has heard. Two students being driven home in an Uber on the evening of September 23, 2020, sustained serious injuries, with one having to fight for their life, after a Mercedes carrying Paddy Connors and Tommy Sharp crashed head on into them at high speed. Paddy, 36, and Tommy, 29, were killed in the smash.
These were the headlights of a Mercedes C Class being driven by Tommy with Paddy in the passenger seat. The car had been chased by an unmarked police car up Frederick Road, reaching speeds in excess of 80mph, the inquest heard yesterday . Before colliding head on with Mr Pervez's car, the Mercedes had glanced another Uber being driven by Mohammed Khan, who said the incident had left him in "total shock".
"It was an awful time of my life, everything was turned upside down. One minute the world was my oyster then it was all winched away from me. I was left with horrific injuries and fighting for my life.
