One tax provision in the $2.2 trillion coronavirus stimulus package will overwhelmingly benefit wealthy Americans, according to a nonpartisan congressional analysis.
The measure lifted the limit for this year, and allows filers to apply it retroactively for the last two years. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Texas, who, along with Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., requested the analysis from the Joint Committee on Taxation, accused Republicans of using the"health emergency to reward ultrarich beneficiaries, likely including the Trump family, with a tax loophole not available to middle class families."
"There are a whole bunch of businesses that will really be devastated in 2020, and the ability to take them back and use them as a deduction against earlier years is very favorable," Steve Rosenthal, a senior fellow at the Tax Policy Center, told ABC News.
