A 32-year-old man disappeared in southern Argentina after coast riding an all-terrain vehicle. The tattooed arm belonging to him was discovered inside a shark after it was caught and cleaned by fishermen.
Diego Barria, 32, disappeared in southern Argentina on Feb. 18 after he was last seen near the coast riding an all-terrain vehicle, according to a report.Law enforcement began a search, and Barria's damaged ATV was found two days later on the beach, but the 32-year-old was nowhere to be found.
Coastguards were alerted Sunday morning that a pair of fishermen discovered a ghastly scene after they had caught school sharks near the site where Barria's ATV had been located, according to the report. When"they were cleaning them, they found human remains in one of them," Daniela Millatruz, the officer leading the search, said.
Members of the victim's family identified Barria"due to a tattoo that appeared in one of those remains," Millatruz said."We presume Diego had an accident ... and we’re investigating if there was a vehicle involved."The shark in which the remains were found measured roughly 4.9 feet, according to the report.
There had been a strong tidal surge around the time Barria went missing, and it is believed he"had an accident and was dragged," authorities said."My heart went with you! I love you forever," Virginia Brugger, Barria's partner, said in a statement.
