Oak matters. Dry, red wine drinkers will learn more about how it matters at the 12th Casks, Corks & Forks Progressive Food and Wine Tasting from noon to 5 p.m., Sept. 9.
The tasting includes a limited-release Cask 1023 red wine from, each winery paired with an appetizer created to compliment the wine. The cost is $12 per person at each location. New this year, wine drinkers who visit all five wineries receive a commemorative 18-ounce red wine glass at their final stop.
Oak barrels from both France and Hungary are usually made from the same tree species but impart different characteristics to the wines.
