HBO's Task features an exciting cast to portray its intriguing characters. The crime drama series, which releases its first episode on September 7, 2025, is created by Mare of Easttown's Brad Ingelsby.
This fact alone has naturally drawn some attention, but it's the cast of supremely talented performers that really makes Task worth turning in for. Task revolves around two single fathers, an FBI agent who recently lost his wife, and a criminal garbage man whose own wife left just before the tragic death of his brother. When a string of home invasions turns deadly, the former is tasked with leading a team of unpredictable and inexperienced agents to discover who is responsible. Tasks is a classic cops and robbers story with a twist and some excellent performers. Mark Ruffalo As Tom Date Of Birth: November 22, 1967 Born and raised in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Mark Ruffalo is known for both indie dramas and major blockbusters. He gained global recognition playing Bruce Banner in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but his career stretches back to 1989. Ruffalo's other notable projects include This is Our Youth, 13 Going on 30, Shutter Island, Foxcatcher, and I Know This Much Is True. Ruffalo plays Tom in Task, an FBI agent who recently experienced a terrible tragedy within his family. Tom's heart is in the right place, but his trauma and overall fatigue have put a significant strain on his relationship with his daughter. This naturally overflows into Tom's career, where he must hold himself together as the head of a task force aimed at tracking down those responsible for a string of home invasions. Tom Pelphrey As Robbie Date Of Birth: July 28, 1982 New Jersey native Tom Pelphrey first gained widespread notice for his Emmy-winning work on Guiding Light before later building a reputation for intense, emotionally raw performances. This led to projects like As the World Turns, Banshee, Iron Fist, and, perhaps most notably, Ozark. Pelphrey's more recent projects include Outer Range, Love & Death, and A Man in Full. Pelphrey plays Robbie in Task, a single father and garbage man who was recently left by his wife. Following this major life shift, Robbie's beloved brother passed away, leaving a significant mark on his small family. To make ends meet, Robbie begins breaking into drug houses, which he identifies through their trash. This operation is successful enough to gain the FBI's attention in Task. Emilia Jones As Maeve Date Of Birth: February 23, 2002 Emilia Jones, born in London, England, first rose to prominence with her breakout role in the film CODA, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture. Prior to this, Jones showcased her talents through smaller roles in projects like Doctor Who, Utopia, and Brimstone. More recently, this actor starred in the Netflix series Locke & Key, in which she played Kinsey Locke. Jones plays Maeve in Task, Robbie's adult niece . Maeve is only 21, but she took on a mother-like role after Robbie's wife left. She technically owns the home that Robbie lives in with his children, and she suffers significantly under the pressure of all the responsibility that has been placed on her at such a young age. Raúl Castillo As Cliff Date Of Birth: August 30, 1977 Texas-native Raúl Castillo is an actor and playwright best known for his work on HBO's Looking. He also appeared in We the Animals, Cassandro, Breath, Smile 2, American Horror Stories, and Class of '09. Castillo plays Cliff in Task, Robbie's best friend and fellow garbage man. Like his pal, Castillo has a good heart. However, he participates in Robbie's home-invasion gig, targeting drug dealers to make some quick cash. Thuso Mbedu As Aleah Date Of Birth: July 8, 1991 South African actor Thuso Mbedu gained international recognition for her Emmy-nominated performance in Is'Thunzi. From there, she went on to star in Barry Jenkins' The Underground Railroad, as well as the MCU film The Woman King. Mbedu's other notable projects include Mufasa: The Lion King and Castlevania: Nocturne. In Task, Mbedu plays Aleah, one of the four FBI agents who serve under Ruffalo's Tom on the task force aimed at taking down Robbie. Aleah is highly organized and sensible, contrasting entirely with her teammates. Though somewhat inexperienced, her attention to detail and keen mind make her a valuable asset to Tom's investigation. Alison Oliver As Lizzie Date Of Birth: June 3, 1997 Irish actor Alison Oliver is best known for her debut role in the Hulu series Conversations with Friends, in which she played Frances. Since then, she claimed roles in Saltburn, The Order, and Best Interests, ultimately leading to her casting in Task and the upcoming film adaptation of Wuthering Heights, in which she will play Isabella Linton. Oliver plays Lizzie in Task, another member of Tom's task force. Lizzie is the complete opposite of Aleah. She's chaotic and disorganized, often showing up late or entirely unprepared. However, there's some hidden cleverness here, layered with an immensely deep sense of compassion. Fabien Frankel As Anthony Date Of Birth: April 6, 1994 London-born actor Fabien Frankel is best known for his role in the Game of Thrones spinoff, House of the Dragon, in which he plays villain Ser Criston Cole. Prior to this, Frankel appeared in Last Christmas, NYPD Blue, and An Uncandid Portrait. Frankel's Task character, Anthony, is the final member of Tom's FBI task force. He is immensely competent and dependable, but also outspoken and combative. It's clear in Task that Anthony is eager to prove himself, though he is somewhat disapproving of his teammates' methods. Task Supporting Cast & Characters Silvia Dionicio as Emily - Silvia Dionicio has appeared in projects like New Amsterdam and Chicago P.D. She plays Emily in Task, Tom's daughter. Owen Teague as Peaches - Known for It and It Chapter Two, Owen Teague plays Peaches in Task, another friend and coconspirator of Robbie's. Phoebe Fox as Sara - Phoebe Fox, known for The Great and The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death, plays Sara in Task. Isaach De Bankolé as Daniel Georges - Featured in Casino Royale, Black Panther, and The Limits of Control. Isaach De Bankolé plays Daniel Georges in Task. Martha Plimpton as Kathleen McGinty - The part of Kathleen McGinty in Task is played by Martha Plimpton, known for The Goonies, Raising Hope, and Mass. Mireille Enos as Susan Brandis - Tom's wife, Susan, is played by Mireille Enos, known for The Killing and Hanna.
