This sector is ’poised for a big, beautiful year’: Truistalso had a miss on the top and a beat on the bottom. The shares are down 5.3% . This is putting a bit of a wet blanket on the earnings season. The timing has a lot to do with the pending tariff ruling, along with a growing list of geopolitical risks, in addition to the Trump call for 10% credit card interest rates and the investigation of the Fed’s overspending.
We got a slew of economic data today. The important ones saw November PPI coming in at +0.2%, and Core PPI dropping to zero. Retail sales were stronger than forecast at +0.6%, and home sales surprised to the upside. It’s not clear when we will see the overdue December numbers. The bond market seems focused on the lower monthly numbers, and yields are lower. The US 2-year is down 2bps to 3.51%, the 10-year is down 3bps to 4.14%. International yields are down in sympathy, with the exception of the troubling Japanese bonds.is 8% lower, back to a 3-month low. Crypto has caught a bid on hopes for regulatory relief as soon as this week, with Bitcoin reaching $97K, up 7% in 2 days. We’re off the sloppy start to the year. Hopefully, the tariff situation will be resolved soon.
