Tar balls resembling balls and irregular shapes have been discovered on a Sydney beach, prompting a cleanup. This follows similar discoveries in October that closed several beaches in the city’s eastern suburbs. Samples are being analyzed to determine the source.
Tar balls have been discovered on a Sydney beach in Kurnell, Sutherland Shire, approximately two months after similar findings closed several popular beaches. The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) confirmed the discovery and initiated a cleanup. The debris varies in size, shape, and color, with some resembling balls while others are irregularly shaped. Samples were collected for analysis and will be compared to previous findings.
In October, Sydney's Coogee, Maroubra, Clovelly, and other beaches were shut down due to similar discoveries
