Former Seattle City Councilmember Tanya Woo said one of her campaign workers was threatened in the days leading up to the November election.
She told KOMO News the alleged threat came in a voicemail message to the campaign staffer after he sent a campaign text message. She posted the voicemail to her social media pages, including Facebook to let people know it happened and that it is "unacceptable."
"I wanted to call it out, that this is happening, and this happened, and I want to make sure people talk about it. This is unacceptable. We received several messages of that nature, "Go back to China," or "You're Communists" or threatening or intimidating some of my campaign staff and volunteers," said Woo. "That makes me really angry the person who received this message was 18 years old.
She shared a similar text message sent by a campaign volunteer named Brianna. Woo said she got a response back telling her if she contacted them again via text they would find her family. Woo was appointed to fill the citywide District 8 seat earlier this year but was defeated in November in her reelection bid to Alexis Mercedes Rinck. She ran in 2023 for District 2, which includes the CID, but lost that bid too. She said during that campaign she had no such issues.
