Harm reduction refers to the policies, programs, and practices minimizing the poor health, social and legal impacts with drug use, drug policies, and drug laws. It focuses on positive change and on working with people inclusively.
The Asia Harm Reduction Forum 2023 is a prime example of how advocates from across the globe, like Castro, can use their leverage to establish foundations between communities and encourage them to align with harm reduction agendas, especially to countries lagging behind. “We always have local partners because we want to understand the local issues and what is important for people,” she said.
Properly informing the public, raising discussions, and being open for debate are only some methods that could help more people understand harm reduction on a personal level to help encourage others to find safer alternatives or quit drug use.
