Q. I am a member of the Silent Generation and feel we have been overlooked in terms of our character strengths and contributions to society. Could you present the case for the “Silents?” Thank you.One reason you might feel that your generation has not been fully acknowledged is that the Silent Generation – that is, folks who were born between 1928 and 1945 – is the smallest generation in the past 100 years.

In addition to being few in number, the social and cultural environment was “to be seen and not heard.”, named after the book by NBC journalist Tom Brokaw. Brokaw admired this generation because of their desire to do the right thing.The Great Depression encouraged self-reliance.Humility: The Silent Generation rebuilt the economy after the Great Depression, helped launch the Civil Rights movement and fought in WWII. Then there was Martin Luther King, Jr. and Gloria Steinem who brought about social revolutions. Eleven of the 12 moon-walking astronauts were members of the Silent Generation. The Silent Generation transformed our WWII enemies of Germany and Japan into allies.
