KOTA KINABALU: The scheduled parliamentary sitting might as well be held via video-conferencing if it is only going to be held for only one day, says Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin.

He said it is already unfair and senseless for Sabah and Sarawak MPs to have to fly to Peninsular Malaysia just for the one-day sitting and then undergo a mandatory 14-day self-quarantine upon returning home.

“Nevertheless, to fix only a single day for the first parliamentary sitting of the year is utterly ridiculous,” said Chan. As an example, he said countries like Colombia, Brazil, and the Maldives have revised parliamentary rules to enable parliamentary meetings to be convened via virtual platforms.“I mean, it’s ridiculous for us to travel there for one day, then come back to self-quarantine for 14 days.
