The home is a part of the 47th Annual Swiss Avenue Historic District Mother’s Day Home Tour.The Swiss Avenue Historic District Mother’s Day Home Tour is returning after two years of cancellations due to the pandemic. The 2022 home tour is May 7 and 8, and six homes and a garden in the Swiss Avenue Historic District will be open for tours.
Nancy Phillips, chair of the 2022 home tour and a homeowner in the district, said members of the community feel an obligation to share their historic homes with others. “When you buy a house in the Swiss Avenue Historic District, you’re agreeing to preserve the history and to preserve this important piece of our past in Dallas,” Phillips said.
The seven total properties on the tour reflect a variety of design styles from a number of American Foursquare and Prairie Foursquare-style homes to Tudor-style and Georgian revival homes. Information about the properties was provided by the homeowners, Phillips said, and much of the historic background comes from the Swiss Avenue Historic District Association’s records and Preservation Dallas.The home at 4912 Swiss Ave.
This American Foursquare-style home was built in 1918. The home has four bedrooms, five bathrooms and one half-bathroom. The second-level primary suite has access to a private, screened-in porch.This home will only be open for a tour of the garden, which the owners have transformed and updated. They added a pool and a cabana and enhanced the outdoor spaces. This home was originally built in 1913 for Bishop Joseph P. Lynch and was previously used as a monastery, convent, rectory and chancery.
