Host Heidi Hatch was joined by Maura Carabello of the Exoro Group and Speaker Mike Schultz from the Utah Legislature.
The decision issued Wednesday by 3rd District Judge Laura Scott on the amendment would have lifted the restrictions in the Utah Constitution limiting the use of state income tax revenues for schools.
Many have wondered whose responsibility it was to list the amendment with papers before the elections. Schultz said there is no one assigned due to recent changes in state law. The change in how education was funded came with what Schultz called “awesome, amazing funding guarantees that were put in place that really benefited education across the state.”
“We need to update the Constitution from 1896, where it says that it has to be printed in the papers,” Schultz said. With more people getting their news online, he sees the requirement as antiquated.
