It awarded Taiwan, or as Little League prefers, Chinese Taipei, the title after determining Seoul had added two players from another Seoul team that had been eliminated in that country’s national tournament. State College, which the Bronx defeated 2-0 with Almonte throwing a no-hitter to win the trip to the series, was presented the regional championship banner the following year.
The following year, Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands, earned a series berth after the top four teams in the Far East regional tournament, including champion Taiwan, were disqualified for using ineligible players.
