It created a fun little Hollywood coincidence.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Hollywood is full of uncanny coincidences, and Taika Waititi's upcoming movie Next Goal Wins is adding to the list by unintentionally repeating a strange recasting quirk involving Armie Hammer. Next Goal Wins is based on the true story of the hapless, inept American Samoa national football club trying to make qualifications for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Initially, Armie Hammer was set to have a role in Next Goal Wins. However, Hammer's mounting issues surrounding some truly disturbing text messages and allegations have sidelined his career. Arnett's take on the Caped Crusader is entirely tongue-in-cheek, with Arnett leaning into Batman's dark and brooding nature and his well-worn tragic backstory. As a skilled voice actor, Arnett also plays up the "Batman voice," going extra gruff and gravelly for the role. In many ways, he's become the secondary protagonist of the LEGO movie franchise thanks to Arnett's comedic timing.
