The Tacoma Rainiers make history by appointing Rylee Pay as their new radio play-by-play voice, becoming the first female lead broadcaster in Triple-A baseball.
The Tacoma Rainiers have announced the appointment of Rylee Pay as their new radio play-by-play voice, marking a significant milestone as the first female lead broadcaster in Triple-A baseball. Pay succeeds Mike Curto, who announced his retirement in November after a distinguished 26-year tenure as the voice of the Rainiers.
A graduate of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, Pay brings valuable broadcasting experience from her two years with the Portland Sea Dogs, the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Prior to her time with the Sea Dogs, Pay honed her skills with the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod League, the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters of the Northwoods League collegiate summer ball, and even called games for MLB's Arizona Fall League. The Rainiers received an overwhelming response to the opening, with over 250 applicants vying for the position. Pay expressed her excitement about joining the Rainiers, stating, 'I’ve heard so many fantastic things about the culture of Tacoma and what baseball means to this city. I really want to paint the picture of what is happening on the field and help bring the game to life for those fans that can’t attend. I look forward to meeting the people of Tacoma and immersing myself in this special community.' The Tacoma Rainiers' 2025 season is set to commence on March 28th at Cheney Stadium
