Syracuse defeated Washington State 52-35 in the first-ever DirecTV Holiday Bowl played at Snapdragon Stadium. Despite being heavily favored, Syracuse faced a tough challenge from a short-handed Washington State team that had lost numerous players to the transfer portal. Washington State even took a lead in the first quarter, but Syracuse's Kyle McCord ultimately led his team to victory.
The first DirecTV Holiday Bowl ever played at Snapdragon Stadium looked a lot like many of its predecessors: high-scoring and infinitely fun to watch, which is amazing when you consider what one of the teams who played in it had to go through to get here.

Washington State blocked a punt and wide receiver Josh Meredith, a San Diego native who graduated from Mater Dei High School, recovered for a touchdown and a 21-14 lead that had WSU fans dreaming of a monster upset.McCord, as he has all season, had an answer, connecting with Oronde Gadsden II for an 18-yard touchdown that tied it up. That's when Eckhaus made his first mistake of the night.
