Motor neurone disease is a fatal illness with a number of symptoms that can be easily dismissed. Some symptoms include weakness in the ankles or legs, muscle cramps or weight loss.
According to the Neurone Disease Association, MND is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. It attacks the nerves that control movement so muscles no longer work. David Kendal is a firefighter from Manchester who is taking on a 500-mile cycling challenge from Blackpool to Paris to raise money and awareness for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
The cycle will happen over a period of five days and will see David travel from tower to tower, setting off from Blackpool Tower on May 23 and finishing in Paris on May 27.
