While most Australians watched the fireworks, New Year 's celebrations looked very different for the proud parents of the first baby born in 2025. Baby Shawn, the first child born in Sydney in the new year , arrived unexpectedly 17 days early. Shawn's mother, Siska, said she planned to go to Darling Harbour to see the fireworks but thankfully got contractions around 11pm. 'Shawn wanted to party, he likes (to) party,' Siska told 9 News .
'I planned to go to Darling Harbour to see the fireworks around 11 to 11.30pm but then I got painful around 11, lucky I didn't go,' she said. Baby Shawn weighed a healthy three kilos and is happy and healthy. Shawn's father, Vivek, said 'It's just top of the world feeling, you know, because looking at her as soon as she came out, we were in our tears because we just couldn't hold it back.
