Sydney has clocked its hottest July beating the record set in 2018 after United Nations chief Antonio Guterres declared that the 'era of global boiling' has arrived.

By mid-afternoon on Monday the city's CBD had reached a maximum of 23.5C, exceeded the forecast by 1.5C.

It comes days after UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres declared"the era of global boiling has arrived" as this month is most certain to be the world's hottest July ever recorded. "We're still watching for all the data to come together but every single day since July 3 broke the 2016 record for the hottest day peaking at 17.23C," Sky News Australia Meteorologist Bradlyn Oakes said.
