9News can reveal an emissions-free fleet will travel on Sydney waters in the next 11 years, set to replace the freshwater class on the Manly route.

Councillor Candy Bingham said she hoped the electric fleet would keep the iconic design Sydneysiders know and love. Haylen said the only change to design would be a slightly shorter length so they can be dry-docked in Balmain, saving the $15 million fee to have larger ferries serviced at Garden Island.

"They've served some 40 years on our harbour and we need to make sure that by the end of the decade they have a replacement plan," Haylen added.
