Southwest Research Institute has received a $35.7 million contract from the U.S. Navy to support advanced communications and intelligence technologies.
Southwest Research Institute was awarded a $35.7 million contract from the U.S. Navy to support advanced communications and intelligence technologies for use at sea and in the air. The five-year deal for work on some of the Navy’s cryptologic systems began in June and runs through 2029, with an optional two-year, $14 million extension. Cryptology deals with coded and encrypted communications, and the technologies SwRI has developed helps users detect and intercept electromagnetic signals.
In a first, SwRI to build $18.5 million facility near Robins Air Force Base in Georgia The division will oversee the work to be performed on the nonprofit research organization’s West Side campus. The deal includes support for “associated equipment from installation, calibration, integration and training to life-cycle logistics support, spare parts management, maintenance, repair and technology updates,” according to SwRI.
SwRI breaks ground on hypersonic propulsion research facility “As the technology has expanded, we’ve grown, and we’ve developed technology to advance with the capabilities out there,” he said. “The pace keeps picking up. … Technology is a moving target.” SwRI has developed signals intelligence equipment to support the U.S. and allied militaries at sea, in the sky and on land. Its cryptologic technologies are used in 300 applications supporting the U.S.
