Voters endured sweltering heat as they lined up for hours to cast their votes at Nagpayong Elementary School in Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City.
Nagpayong Elementary School is the largest polling precinct in Pasig City with about 43,910 registered voters and houses around 57 clusters, according to the local Commission on Elections .
Due to the sheer number of expected voters, it was no surprise that the people came and went non-stop even six hours after it opened. Thermal scans were available at the entrance of the gate. Security guards helped the voters locate their respective cluster precincts. Tarpaulins showcasing the floor plan of the school hung at the side of the covered court for the voters’ reference.By around 12:30 p.m. , the lines formed outside the classrooms were short. People brought fans to cool them down while some sat on the staircases.
The influx of people caused several violations of the social distancing rule. However, poll watchers were heard reprimanding voters who were not observing physical distancing.Senior citizens and persons with disabilities who were unable to physically access their precincts, particularly those located in the upper floors of the school building, were allowed to vote at the Emergency Accessible Polling Place located at the covered court.
