Sweetgreen and Foodcorps are partnering to reimagine the American school cafeteria experience

rooted in what they call a “food ethos” centered on farm-to-table appeal as well as an impressive use of technology to engage consumers and trace the company’s supply chain.

Ellis calls Sweetgreen a “dream partner,” and he says it’s not just from the lens of philanthropy but from their know-how in offering the market creative, groundbreaking solutions. He calls Sweetgreen’s passion and expertise for making a meal “fulfilling and rewarding” a fundamental aspect of the, which will aim to engage children more fully in the school food experience.

“There are 30 million children a day who walk in the front doors of our nation’s schools. Those kids are going there to learn but they are also going there to eat,” Ellis tells me. “If we care about the next generation of kids and their health and long-term potential, we better fix school food,” he says.is currently in testing at several elementary schools across the country.

Another prototype called the “Tasty Challenge” is in testing at a school in Aberdeen, North Carolina. In this concept, a healthy food item is prepared three ways: Sweetgreen offers the example of “roasted carrots, carrot soup and raw carrots.” Using a technology platform, students vote for their favorite preparation.
