Escoto, Chiles lead way in win over Florida
The San Diego Sockers capped one of the most dominating seasons in indoor soccer history with a gritty performance that claimed the MASL’s Ron Newman Cup.
Brandon Escoto scored twice and Boris Pardo, who was named the MASL Goalkeeper of the Year, stopped 12 shots for the Sockers, including two crucial saves in the final two minutes after Florida brought forward an extra attacker. Some fans were still settling into seats when Escoto smoothly slipped a shot past Hauss just one minute, six seconds into the game.
Escoto scored again at 3:44 of the second off an assist from Chiles, and the Sockers took a 3-2 lead into halftime.
