Notes from Lousville, Ky., where San Diego State prepares to play No. 1 overall seed Alabama in Friday's Sweet 16
Alabama senior wing Noah Gurley admits it. He almost transferred to San Diego State, the team he plays Friday night in the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16.Gurley spent his first three college seasons at Furman in the Southern Conference, then entered the transfer portal in 2021 after averaging 15.4 points and 5.8 rebounds as a junior . SDSU was one of the first teams to call.Gurley is from Fayetteville, Ga., just south of Atlanta. He was intrigued, though.
Gurley finally got to go to San Diego last year, when the Crimson Tide played in the NCAA Tournament at Viejas Arena. He was asked what might have happened had he taken a recruiting trip there. The Aztecs were delivered a batch of balls for practice before their games last week in Orlando, Fla. Trammell said their equipment staff purposely overinflated them “so we can get the feel.”“I just feel like sometimes the balls are just a little too bouncy,” guardThus far in the tournament, 3-point shooting has dipped to 30 percent, about four points below the national average during the regular season. The Aztecs are 10 of 36 in their two tournament games, down from 35.3 percent before.
