Police said around 4 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, officers learned that a group of"several hundred" people were attempting to enter the mall ahead of the launch of the new Swatch watch. Authorities said officers told the group that they needed to move back from the doors and stop trying to enter the closed business, but according to police, the crowd continued to grow and"became more defiant.
" For this reason, additional police resources were deployed, with around 100 officers ultimately handling the scene. Police said officers dispersed the main group, but others continued to try to enter the mall, breaking down doors.

Other Swatch stores across the country were forced to close on Saturday due to the"extraordinarily high demand" of the new Bioceramic Royal Pop Collection, according to the company.
"Some of our stores had to be closed in accordance with our security staff and local authorities to ensure a safe environment for everyone," the company wrote in a Facebook post.
