Both lawmakers brushed off the threat and taunted McCarthy.
"Eric Swalwell cannot get a security clearance in the public sector," McCarthy said."Why would we ever give him a security clearance and the secrets to America? So, I will not allow him to be on Intel."
Because the House Intelligence Committee is a permanent select committee, removal would require a majority of the entire House of Representatives voting to boot Swalwell and Schiff. McCarthy also said he wants to yank Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar from the Foreign Relations Committee, another move that would require the entire House voting to do so.
A spokesperson for Schiff directed SFGATE to comments the representative made on ABC over the weekend. "I suspect he will do whatever Marjorie Taylor Greene wants him to do," Schiff said."He's a very weak leader of this conference, meaning that he will adhere to the wishes of the lowest common denominator, and if that lowest common denominator wants to remove people from committees, that's what they'll do."
