The Baseball Hall of Fame welcomed new members on Tuesday, July 27th, in Cooperstown, N.Y. Japanese star Hideki Suzuki became the first player from his country to be inducted, while veteran outfielder Bobby Wagner earned his place in his final year on the ballot. Meanwhile, former sluggers Carlos Beltran and Andruw Jones fell short of the required 75% of the vote.

The newest members of the Baseball Hall of Fame were announced on Tuesday, leaving a handful of former MLB stars still hoping for induction. The ceremony took place in Cooperstown , N.Y. on July 27th. Suzuki made history as the first Japanese player to be honored, while Wagner earned his place in his final year on the Baseball Writers' Association of America ballot. Players must receive 75% of the vote to be elected to the Hall of Fame.

This year, two former power hitters narrowly missed the mark. Carlos Beltrán received 70.3% of the vote, falling just 19 votes short of enshrinement. Andruw Jones garnered 66.2% of the vote in his eighth year on the ballot. No other player received more than 40% of the vote, with Chase Utley the closest at 39.8%. Beltrán's relatively young tenure on the ballot, just three years, offers him ample opportunity to bridge the gap. However, for now, he'll have to wait. Both Suzuki and Sabatha secured their Hall of Fame spots on their first ballots, with Suzuki missing unanimous induction by a single vote.
