A Utah Transit Authority (UTA) passenger train collided with an SUV after the driver narrowly escaped the vehicle, as captured in chilling video footage. The incident occurred at a railroad crossing in Layton, Utah, last week. The video, taken from inside the locomotive, shows the train approaching the crossing with the SUV partially obstructing the tracks. Despite the train operator's attempts to stop, the collision occurred, sending the SUV spinning and destroying its front end. Amazingly, the driver escaped unharmed. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, including the role of a pickup truck that pushed the SUV onto the tracks.

Newly released video captured the harrowing moment an SUV driver escaped their vehicle just before it was demolished by a Uta h Transit Authority ( UTA ) passenger train in Layton , Uta h, last week. The video, taken from inside the locomotive, shows the train speeding down the tracks toward a railroad crossing. As the train approaches, a white SUV is partially obstructing the track. 'Oh, come on,' the train operator exclaims as the train horn blares relentlessly from hundreds of yards away.

Unable to stop in time, the locomotive collides with the SUV, sending a jolt through the train's interior. A separate security camera view of the crash reveals the SUV driver approaching the crossing with the red lights flashing and the gate arm lowered. Instead of stopping before reaching the gate arm, the white SUV is pushed from behind by a white pickup truck and continues through, narrowly clipping the bottom of the gate and driving onto the tracks. The driver then slams on the brakes, coming to a halt with the rear wheels still wedged between the rails. The driver puts the vehicle in reverse, hitting the gate arm and coming to a stop with the front wheels now blocking part of the tracks. Continuing to reverse, the driver pushes the gate arm back before stopping, exiting the car, and quickly walking away. Seconds later, the train arrives at the intersection and slams into the vehicle, spinning it into the gate arm and its post, completely destroying the front end of the SUV. SLTV in Salt Lake City spoke with UTA public information officer Gavin Gustafson, who said everyone was fortunate to escape without injuries. He also told the station that while it's easy to watch the video and wonder why the driver didn't pull forward or reverse and break the arm, the driver was likely in shock. 'I’m certainly not going to second-guess them in the heat of the moment,' Gustafson said. 'And sometimes, the view might be blocked by something else, you don’t want to pull forward if there is another train coming.' Gustafson did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment on the matter. Still, the station reported that UTA estimates the collision caused over $100,000 in damage to the train. In the process, the gate and crossing post were damaged, though the latter was reportedly repaired within 24 hours with assistance from the city of Layton
