The goal of the rescue is to find each of the birds a new permanent place to live.
The Feathered Sanctuary Exotic Bird Rescue in Lancaster County is filled with fancy friends. For the last 25 years, the sanctuary has taken in dozens of birds that have been surrendered by their owners.'People get them, can't keep them for whatever reason. Their health, their age, they're moving,' sanctuary director Sharon Shaub said.About a year ago, the sanctuary learned it would need to find a new nest of its own.
The owner of the donated space the sanctuary is currently using wants to expand into that area.The good news, the sanctuary has already found a new home in Bird-In-Hand, Lancaster County.Shaub said it's an ironic choice. Still, she's concerned about the move. Right now, the Feathered Sanctuary does not pay rent, electric or other utilities. Plus, bird food and veterinary bills are going up in price.
